Well, I was going to wait until I was ready to release Version 3.0
but.... some of the existing problems just became too annoying so,
here is ChessCOM Version 2.9.
If you already have an older version of ChessCOM, just replace
the CHESSCOM.EXE with this new one. Even if yours was already
registered, this new 2.9 will automatically detect it - no need
for you to do anything else.
Whats New in Version 2.9?
-------------------------
1. Ansi detect on some BBS's was leaving weird numbers at
the logon prompts, and when returning from a door.
2. Fast CPU's (above 30 Mhz) would wig out on the delay
times of the auto-dialer. We fixed this (hopefully)
and even added an "editable Wait For Connect" time.
(It's on the Dialing Menu - at the bottom of the screen)
3. The ZModem bat files for downloading and uploading were
assuming that everyone was using COM1: - bad assumption.
Even {I} use a different one. There is now a SET statement
at the top of each bat file that you can change to reflect
your comport.
4. Depending on your monitor setup, your screen might have
been "unreadable" if ChessCOM did not detect it correctly.
If you want to change the main screen colors of ChessCOM,
run it at least ONE time, exit, and then go looking in the
ChessCOM directory for a file called CHESSCOM.INI.
It should look something like this:
Filename: CHESSCOM.INI, Location: Same dir as CHESSCOM.EXE
----------------------------------------------------------
AT E1 S7=255 S11=55 V1 X4 S0=0 M1 <-- Modem init string
$03F8,4
$02F8,3
$03E8,4
$02E8,3

60 <---- wait time for connect
2 <---- internal to ChessCOM
2.9 <---- internal to ChessCOM
That "15" means BRIGHT WHITE foreground. The "1" just below
it means a BLUE background.
The foreground can be any color 0-15.
The background can be any color 0-7.
I know... this is a pain, and what the heck is "15"??
Well, bear with me, I'll make it all easier in Version 3.0
but I did want to get something out to at least help you
make it until I've finished the new program.
Well, that's pretty much it for now. I will say that Version 3.0
is getting closer, is a MAJOR rewrite of the code, and will include
a LOT of things we Chess players would like to see. It is a MAJOR
revision though, so please be patient.
Good Luck,
<Pat>
